Youtube and globalization
How can we say that YouTube has anything to do with Globalization?
The definition of the word "globalization" is "interaction or integration reaching a global or worldwide scale".
YouTube is a video sharing website that allows individuals who make a free account to post anything from video clips, music videos, and video blogs to even instructional videos.
YouTube has even reached a magnitude of popularity in which companies and corporations use it in order to advertise products and ideas to the general population.
YouTube engulfs the very essence of globalization, allowing personal interaction between individuals all over the world and giving the opportunity for anyone to let their voice be heard. This is heavily due to the popularization of the internet and the abundance of internet access, but YouTube has surpassed the amount of intimacy that was originally only known by the internet. Interaction had originally been mainly comprised of text and written word, but YouTube took internet interaction a step further, allowing video and image interaction, which is much more personal.
The type of interaction is almost limitless. YouTube has been heavily adopted by advertising industries, with videos ranging from professional athletes performing stunts, to silly commercials, all advertising company products and allowing these advertisements to reach the large audience of YouTubers.
Individuals who express themselves musically also have a much easier platform enabling their gifts and talents to be viewed by individuals all at the click of a button. We are all familiar with the pop superstar Justin Bieber, who actually was found from YouTube videos he posted and owes his popularity to the YouTube platform (Not that I am pleased with this result). Other less heard of individuals, such as one of my favorites, Brushy One String, would have a much harder time being heard if it wasn't for the wonder of YouTube.
Another example of impressive interaction that YouTube has achieved is the ability to teach and learn through the internet. A popular video channel named Khan Academy uses instructional videos to teach viewers skills in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and other varieties of subjects. Khan Academy is just one of many instructional channels that has exploited the wonders of YouTube's global audience.
With all this being said, posting a video to YouTube does not inevitably mean it will be viewed by everyone visiting the site, but it has increased the potential for contact and interaction between individuals to a staggering value, allowing people to interact on a global scale.
